Motorhome campsite booking apps and websites make trip planning much easier, but no single service contains every campsite or guarantees that an informal parking place is lawful. This guide explains which tools are useful, how to compare results and how to confirm a safe, permitted overnight stay.

The safest approach: use an app to discover possible locations, then verify the current rules, facilities and availability with the campsite, landowner, local authority or official scheme before travelling.

Apps for discovering motorhome stops

Searchforsites

Searchforsites lists campsites, club sites, motorhome stopovers, service points, approved Forestry and Land Scotland night stops and other categories across the UK and Europe. Its filtering is useful because you can separate full touring pitches from daytime parking and locations without services. Offline use is available through its mobile apps.

Best for: broad UK and European research, filtering by type and finding service points. Always read the category carefully and confirm community-supplied information.

park4night

park4night is a large community directory with maps, photographs and user comments for campsites, motorhome areas, service points and informal locations. It is particularly useful in Europe and for seeing recent visitor experiences.

Best for: discovering possibilities and reading recent reports. A location appearing in park4night is not proof that overnight parking is currently permitted—check signs and official information on arrival.

Campercontact

Campercontact provides motorhome stopovers, campsites, filters, routes and user reviews. Some locations offer booking through the app, while offline maps and additional features are part of its paid plan.

Best for: European touring, route planning and comparing motorhome-specific facilities. Confirm what is included before paying or relying on a service.

Websites for finding and booking pitches

Pitchup

Pitchup lets travellers search for bookable campsites and filter for motorhome or campervan pitches, facilities, pets and other requirements. Check whether the pitch is grass or hardstanding and whether electricity is included.

Caravan and Motorhome Club

The Caravan and Motorhome Club operates club campsites and a network of smaller Certificated Locations. Membership may be required for some sites, so verify access before planning around one.

Camping and Caravanning Club

The Camping and Caravanning Club campsite finder covers club sites and smaller Certificated Sites. Check membership rules, pitch type, vehicle limits and seasonal opening.

Official tourism and council websites

Official destination websites are particularly valuable for local motorhome guidance. VisitScotland, Visit Lake District and local council pages can identify recognised schemes, touring sites, waste points and restrictions that may not be accurately reflected in community apps.

How to book a campsite step by step

  1. Choose the area, not just one exact site. Identify two or three suitable locations near the attractions you plan to visit.
  2. Enter the correct vehicle details. Use the motorhome’s overall length and confirm height or weight limits where requested.
  3. Select the correct pitch. A tent pitch or touring-caravan pitch may not accept a motorhome. Choose a motorhome/campervan pitch and check grass versus hardstanding.
  4. Add essential filters. Include pets, electric hook-up, fresh water, chemical disposal, showers or accessibility only where needed.
  5. Read the site’s own information. Check arrival times, gate access, minimum stays, deposits and cancellation terms.
  6. Check the access route. Satellite imagery can help, but the campsite’s directions are usually safer than blindly following a sat-nav down narrow lanes.
  7. Book through the site or recognised booking service. Make sure the confirmation shows the correct dates, vehicle and number of guests.
  8. Save proof offline. Download the confirmation, address, contact number and directions before entering poor-signal areas.
  9. Prepare a lawful backup. Do not rely on an informal location as the only option late at night.

How to judge an app listing

  • Look for recent reviews rather than relying on an old star rating
  • Check whether the listing says campsite, authorised stopover, daytime parking or informal parking
  • Confirm recent photographs match the current entrance and signage
  • Read the lowest reviews for access, noise, slope or closure information
